In 11,987 BBY, the Human Contispex I became Supreme Chancellor, beginning the period known as the Pius Dea Era. Contispex was a high-ranking member of the Pius Dea religion, and his ascension to the head of the Republic soon brought Pius Dea adherents into most of the government's positions of power. In 11,965 BBY, Contispex launched the First Pius Dea Crusade, a military crusade against the Hutt species, and the Republic Navy's forces launched along the Ootmian Pabol route and from the planets Ord Yndar and Ord Wylan against the western edge of Hutt Space. Under Contispex's descendants and successors in the Contispex dynasty of Chancellors, the Republic would launch a total of thirty-four crusades against alien species, and the Navy became a stronghold of Pius Dea influence during their reign.
The Republic Military converted at blasterpoint thousands of people in the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim, and though defeated populations could retain autonomy if they converted, only those who joined the Republic Navy could move freely between planets. By the 11,500s BBY, Pius Dea cathedral ships made up a large part of the Navy, crewed by descendants of the original naval crews and commanded by missionaries. Under the Pius Dea, the Navy also established a large number of Ordnance/Regional Depots along the frontier of the Republic, planets that served as home bases from which the Pius Dea and the Navy could push forward into the "alien chaos" of the Outer Rim. The Navy plundered many of the worlds that they discovered on their crusades, descending upon those worlds found to be impure and deploying millions of troops to purge the inhabitants and claim their riches. The bi-wing snub fighter saw use in the Republic Navy during this time, as did the man-of-war.
Pius Dea Crusaders
Pius Dea Crusaders were the army of the sect. Crusaders embarked upon crusades in the name of the Goddess, Crusaders often acted very violently to the alien species they encountered. The Pius Dea's religious rationale for the Crusaders actions was that chaos lurked beyond the Rim and that they were merely following The Goddess's edict to subdue it. The Pius Dea Crusaders were also lured by the promise of wealth and secrets which led them to plunder conquered worlds. The loot taken by the Crusaders would then be ferried back to Coruscant in Men-O-War.
Pius Dea Missionaries
Pius Dea Missionaries were the Commanders, teachers and enforcers of the sect's doctrin, they operated where ever there were crusades taking place. During the crusades the sect's numbers swelled as thousands of Rimward worlds and species were forcibly converted or coerced into joining the Pius Dea, as a direct result of the Missionaries work. Pius Dea Missionaries were also responsible for commanding the Cathedral Ships.
Pius Dea Crewmen
Pius Dea Crewmen were the descendants of Republic Navy personnel that had joined the sect when it came to power. Only Pius Dea Crewmen were allowed to crew the massive Cathedral Ships.
During the crusades, several military outposts known as Ordnance/Regional Depots (O/RDs) were established to protect human settlers from hostile alien threats. This further deepened interspecies tensions with the anti alien nature of the crusades forcing an exodus into Hutt Space and turning the Rimward Slice into a militarized zone dominated by war profiteers. These O/RDs operated as home bases for Republic Navy units and Pius Dea Missionaries to launch military and religious expeditions into the frontier. Cathedral Ships became essential to sustaining these expansionary campaigns, doubling as warships and religious temples.
Pius Dea Spaceport
The Pius Dea Spaceport was still in existence by the year 3,640 BBY, and was located on the Galactic capital world of Coruscant. The spaceport possessed large flat landing pads, and was positioned near the Jedi Temple, and stretched as far north to the large industrial area known as The Works.
The Supreme Temple
The Pius Dea's Supreme Temple on Coruscant was the sect's largest temple. It was built sometime during the Pius Dea period when the sect ruled the Galactic Republic. Following the collapse of Pius Dea rule during the Seventh Alsakan Conflict and the capture of the last Pius Dea Supreme Chancellor Contispex XIX, the Supreme Temple was destroyed after an anti-Pius Dea coalition led by the Jedi Order on Ossus took over the Republic and it's Galactic Senate.

Very Durable: With its heavy shields and thick armour, the Cathedral-class can take a tremendous beating and still fly.
Heavily Armed: For a ship of its size, the Cathedral-class boasts a heavier armament than most cruisers which is why it's been dubbed a 'battleship.'
Invasion Force: The Cathedral-class can carry an entire division of troops and dozens of assault vehicles to be deployed planetside.
Very Slow: It's not a quick ship, making the Cathedral-class outmaneuvered by most ships in its class.
Inefficient: Due to the amount of soldiers on board, the Cathedral-class cannot travel far from supply lines for very long.
Surface Area: The starship is taller and wider than it is long, providing the enemy more surface area to target in battle.
Description: Original designs are owed to the Pius Dea, a zealous cult which once ruled the Old Republic several thousand years ago, the Cathedral ships were the pinnacle of their power. Essentially mobile fortresses, these warships were able to occupy enemy worlds and govern frontier space with relative ease due to their fearsome and mobile nature. Because they're warships, the Cathedral ships also provided strategic value in policing the frontier against piracy, insurgency, and enemies of the Republic.
Although the majority of such ships were destroyed when Pius Dea rule ended, a rogue sect established a secret haven on Ord Janon and brought a handful of these vessels with them. In limited number, the Cathedral ships were restored and upgraded by The Primeval Fleet and designated as Cathedral-class Battleships. Despite being called battleships, the Cathedral-class is more appropriately distinguished as a cruiser due to its size being under 1,000km but above 500m. Even still, the Cathedral-class boasts many of the fearsome traits that made the Pius Dea's Cathedral ships an unrivaled vessel in the Old Republic.
Spearheading invasion forces, the Cathedral-class is complimented by dozens of vehicles and can carry up to an entire division of troops to be deployed in battles but it must land to deploy the bulk of its forces. Having a few of these in one fleet is enough to invade and occupy an enemy world with relative ease. As well the ventral weapons make orbital bombardment more precise and able than with traditional weapon placements.

A man-of-war was a large military capital ship. Men-o-war were used during the Pius Dea Era by both the Pius Dea-controlled Republic Navy and its opponents. They were capable of exchanging fire across broadsides. They saw action during the Pius Dea Crusades when the Pius Dea sect used its control over the Galactic Republic to launch military crusades against alien species in the Outer Rim to subdue chaos in the name of The Goddess. Men-o-war were still in use during the reign of the Galactic Empire.
Bi-wing snubfighters were primitive starfighters that were developed during the Pius Dea Crusades. They were used by both the Pius Dea Republic Navy and its opponents over a millennia of internecine warfare and crusades.
They were used for atmospheric aerial combat and to provide air support for ground forces during the fighting that consumed Rimward worlds during the Crusades.
