8. The Dormitory

After taking, with Erik, an under ground train, which they name the Metropolitain, we arrived at my first destination worthy of this name : the Dormitory of the Raft. It is a building which blends in rather well with the architecture of the neighbourhood which has its quota of semi-artisanal factories, restaurants, and family apartments.

Erik said we were in a calm quarter however the complex mechanism, which was needed to open the door of the dormitory only to its residents, did not seem to me reassuring (I quickly understood the importance of my identity punched-card). The Dormitory was 6 stories high, but had a rather repetitive structure, on highest 2 floors : the sleeping rooms, where every 2.5 dd (6 hours) a sleeper replaced another sleeper.

The two levels below were waking rooms, where each one could make physical exercises, get washed, or take light meals, for a maximal period of 2.5 dd before the sleeper above woke up (which was the begining of the working period)... once the worker returned from his 2.5 dd of daily work, in the two gound floors, he could relax and do intellectual or ludic activities, or even take a nap after work and have a good meal.
