23. Republican Alphabet

The name Republican Alphabet was first difined in the year 20 UR (1812), when the basis of the Republican Speach were thrown.

The Republican Alphabet of the time used 25 of our Latin letters (of A to Z without Q), to write the sounds considered as simple, and thus used in the RL.

Thereafter a system named the Extended Republican Alphabet was made from the RE, the 25 letter alphabet is now named Restricted Republican Alphabet.

The increase in the number of elements of the system was made possible by the use of diacritic symbols (dots, accents, tilde) on the consonants and the vowels, and a system of dots and strikes under the vowel to indicate the vowel's stressing or the length. One could thus use RA as phonetic transcription tool for many languages with a sufficient precision.

This was initially used to help read the family names and the city names, then since the existance of the PolyGraphic Network the majority of the Regional Languages in the Universal Republic adopted the phonetic writting system for book publication, and a reduced version for personal writing (by omitting the diacritics which do not have a discriminating role within the language).

You'll find here two very weird sentences illustrating the transcription in ARE, of French and German sounds.
