13. Polygraphy Glossary
| Hubs : -analytic engine : mechanical circuit needed to coordinate the information between the different parts of the polygraph, and to resolve complex functions in programs (that is machine language written typograms). -memory band : enables a short term typogram stocking, to have time to choose what to do with them (is also used by the analytic engine while running programs). Interfaces :
-keyboard : is used to manually write the characters of a typogram. -haxachrome mosaic mechanical touch screen : used to visualize typograms and results of graphical programs (on most screens the mosaic square's side is 3 mm, the square is one of the 6 sides of a rotating cube, each side has a color).
-phonograph : is used to convert sound to analogical electric impulses (phonogram) and the other way round (with microphone and earphone).
-visiograph : is used to convert analogical electric impulses (visiogram) to an image (a visiographic camera in first place).
Peripherals :
-
polydisk reader/writer : -card
reader/puncher : Telecommunication : -polytel
: combination of telephone, teletype and televisio, can transmit phonograms,
typograms or visiograms. Printing : -drawing-press
: capable of both drawing pictures and printing typographic characters. Pictures :
-photographic camera : used to make color photograms on light sensitive films.
-cinematographic camera : used to make color cinematograms on light sensitive multi image films. -picture projector : used to get a bigger picture on a white screen from a film, the film speed can be changed. (a phonograph is needed to have sound). -reprograph : optical machine used to code a photogram to a visiogram and vice versa. -trombinoscope : a machine with a multi panel screen made to assemble several basic face elements when a trombinoscopic number is given. |
