24. Past Wars
| The First Global War : 36-43 UR (1828-35) For many years the people of the Balkans and particularly the Greeks, long for independence. Indeed even if the Ottoman Empire, as a good occupying power alternates carrot and stick with brilliance, the non-Moslem people under Turkish control want to follow their own ideals like the other people of Europe. Some are republican, but not inevitably unionists with the Universal Republic, the others are rather religious, but not all trust fully the Moscow Conclave, regent of the British-Russian thrown and Christian unifier. Since years UR on one side and BR Conclave on the other provide weapons and promises of support to the independentist groups from all over the Balkans, mainly in Greece. When the Greek begin their rebellion a race Balkan annexation between UR and BRE starts, a race which degenerates into a global conflict. Indeed very quickly the two back bases of the two big ennemies, which are in North America and in Australia were the theatres of military actions being used in a case to decrease the industrial power, essential for war effort, and in the other case to decrease the energy resources as much essential. This set ablaze the Carabeen area of the globe, and gradually the Hispano American Republics on UR side, and on the other the young Brazilian Empire, at the time still independent of BRE. On the level of the military technics, in addition to the land war, the arrival of iron steamships radically changed the sea warefare and in the end the war itself : When the two large belligerents ended up with no more ships at sea, the war stopped and each country started rebuilding its economy while the war spirit was dissipating. The Ottoman Empire was the only real winner of this conflict, since by not supporting any of its two adversaries, it left them destroy one another, and managed to keep the Balkans under its authority, except for some small Greek islands, which are now RU, BRE or independant military bases.
The Colonial War : 53-70 RU (1845-62) Whereas the preceding conflicts often called upon citizen armies defending the metropolitan territory, i.e. the native soil, the colonial war uses a professional army for economic or strategic objectives. This is why this conflict took place in remote places, especially in Dark Africa. The reason this conflict started, was the will of the two blocs to install railraods on the Dark Continent, and thus the need to have continuous and protected territorial possessions. It resulted in terrestrial troop movements with naval supports, and an innovation : many zeppelin type air vessels. This conflict ended when the colonies were redistributed in a more coherent way between UR and BRE, this extreme logic gave to colonial Africa its dual aspect : UR West and BRE East. In other parts of the globe a similar logic was found... But we musn't forget to speak about the confrontations with the natives, who are sometimes on the Enemy's side, or simply enemies. The colonial war was Bruce the First's master-piece, in which he could express his will to establish the BRE on all the continents, to subjugate all people by all means, with the help of his armies clothed in red. One should note that the less brutal approach of the UR in its colonization, unfortunately only resulted in the establishment of a smaller colonial territory.
The Space Race: 82-92 RU (1874-84) The solar system exploration and particularly of Eole's moons seems to be the current concern on the inter bloc level, still after the emergence of new anti-European Empire : the Levant Empire, a number of military and diplomatic concerns are still centered on our good old planet Earth, especially since the relations between the blocs became more and more diplomatic. However a fact remains undeniable, the technical and industrial leaps made these last 50 years were all due partly by Red Coal, and the planetary reserves seem to be melting like snow in the sun, its harvest on other planet seems be the most salutary solution which still remains to be accomplished, these elements causing the acceleration of the space race. Though with the increase of espionage, and the mechanical and military improvements, many analysts already predict the coming of the Second Global War for soon, as the inevitable result of the energy stress on each of the two blocs, worsened by now two anti-European Empires. |
