Film 1:

The film of Deborah Curtis's "Touching From A Distance" is due to start shooting early 2005:

LA / Pittsburgh Based Claraflora have the exclusive option and have been "working closely" with Deborah Curtis who will act as co-producer.

According to company principle Todd Eckert the film will tell the true story of Ian Curtis “We’re looking to give the world a truthful view of who Ian really was ... Given his suicide, there’s so much concentration on the dark side of his life. We want to also concentrate on the energy that made people love Ian and Joy Division in the first place, while putting difficult elements such as his epilepsy into perspective. It will be a balanced approach - this isn’t the rock and roll Shine.”

Claraflora are currently finalising directors, actors and script. The film might be called Transmission.

Film 2:

Just to confuse matters a different film was announced at the 2004 Cannes film festival - to be directed by Amy Hobby with with Moby as music supervisor. This sounds like the people from Double A films who previously had the option on the book. Though that option lapsed, producer Neil Weisman has said that he and Hobby plan to produce an Ian Curtis biopic "based on extensive research by Hobby," rather than on the biography.
